If you’ve not heard of Respect the Water before or you’d like to find out about the resources available in a more visual way, then please take a look at this helpful video.

Last year, with your fantastic help, our Respect the Water Float campaign helped to save seven lives. This year we are inviting you to support the Float message again and share it with members of the public and your friends and family.

Respect The Water aims to arm people with the knowledge needed to keep themselves safe, and survive, if they find themselves in danger.

Key campaign messages

For 2018 we are continuing to focus on the float message, so it would be great if you can use this messaging when you share the 'Float to live' message:

Float to Live:

If you're in trouble in cold water:

Fight your instinct to thrash around

Lean back, extend your arms and legs

If you need to, gently move your arms and legs to help you float

Float until you can control your breathing

Only then call for help or swim to safety

If you see somebody in danger of drowning at the coast:

Call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard straight away

Online resources

There are also resources that you can download – such as posters – videos, social media graphics, and our radio adverts that you can access here.

Please note, that some of these resources are being refreshed, but they will be available from 22 May – just in time for the launch of the campaign.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word about Respect the Water. This year it would be great to hear about even more lives being saved because of the safety messaging that’s being shared.
