Piloting a partnership to train children in water safety
12 October 2016
Throughout three special ‘Water Safety Weeks’ in September (w/c 26), October (w/c 31) and November (w/c 29) Life Leisure will be enhancing their school swim classes and after-school lessons at Life Leisure Grand Central in Stockport with a focus on Water Safety skills Swim Safe modules.
The training will ensure that children know where it is safe to swim, why an adult should always be present, how to avoid danger and how to call for help in an emergency.
The RNLI’s Partnership with Life Leisure
Fiona Pearson, RNLI Water Safety Centre Development Manager sees this pilot as the perfect test-bed for the RNLI to find out if the scheme could work in communities with similar organisations and local authorities around the UK.
Julie Bennet, Swimming Development Manager at Life Leisure, says:
We are pleased and honoured to be working with the RNLI on this important project – raising awareness of water safety and drowning prevention is crucial and something we are incredibly passionate about. If our partnership saves just one life we have helped make a difference.
Our ultimate goal is to help young people gain the skills and experience they need to help and encourage them to swim safe well into adulthood.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a local swimming provider like Life Leisure and deliver lifesaving lessons to children to help them develop skills and knowledge about the water which will help them for the rest of their lives.
