TK Maxx to the Rescue

Lifeboats News Release

Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat station has received assistance from the Kirkcaldy branch of TK Maxx, with a donation of £1,000.

A member of the Kirkcaldy store’s team, Jill Goodwin, nominated the Kinghorn RNLI station, which is manned by volunteers and funded by donations, for support from the TK Maxx Community Fund.
 
Jill, who has lived in Kinghorn her whole life, explained, ‘Having lived in Kinghorn my whole life, the RNLI station is part of our community.
 
‘My late father, Marshall Drummond, was one of the original crew members when it was launched in 1965.
 
‘These days my cousin, Alan McIlravie, is the Station Manager, and his son Scott is a serving volunteer on the crew, so it is a charity close to my heart.
 
‘When my manager, John Crichton, told me about the TK Maxx Community Fund helping local charities, I instantly thought of our local station, which is solely funded by donations. I applied and was over the moon when I received a cheque for £1,000 for the Kinghorn station.’
 
In the last 12 months, over 250 UK charities have been supported by the TK Maxx fund, which has to be applied for by staff members.
 
Operations Manager, Alan McIlravie said, ‘We are extremely grateful to TK Maxx for their support. The RNLI is entirely funded by voluntary donations in the UK, and support like this is essential and necessary to enable the RNLI to provide the service around the coast of the UK and Ireland.’
 
The station will hold its annual Open Day on Saturday 16th July, with action starting at noon.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service in the United Kingdom and Ireland from 238 lifeboat stations, including four along the River Thames and inland lifeboat stations at Loch Ness, Lough Derg, Enniskillen and Lough Ree. Additionally the RNLI has more than 1,000 lifeguards on over 240 beaches around the UK and operates a specialist flood rescue team, which can respond anywhere across the UK and Ireland when inland flooding puts lives at risk.

The RNLI relies on public donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. As a charity it is separate from, but works alongside, government-controlled and funded coastguard services. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 our lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives. Volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew. Additionally, tens of thousands of other dedicated volunteers raise funds and awareness, give safety advice, and help in our museums, shops and offices.
