Harwich RNLI volunteers called to yacht aground

Lifeboats News Release

Just before 3pm on Friday 8 April, Harwich RNLI inshore lifeboat volunteers launched to assist a grounded yacht.

The vessel was reported to be aground at the entrance to the river Deben. With the tide falling, the aim was to get on scene as quickly but as safely as possible to check on the wellbeing of those on board the yacht.

After carefully negotiating the entrance to the river Deben, the volunteer lifeboat crew found the yacht to be high and dry. A crew member was transferred on to the shingle bank to check on the vessel's occupants. An anchor was laid in to deeper water to assist with re-floating on the next high tide.

Shortly before 5pm, the lifeboat returned to station and was refuelled and made ready for service.
