Stornoway Lifeboat Station on the Isle of Lewis was established in 1887. Since then, crews have been putting their lives on the line to rescue others, and have been presented with six RNLI medals for gallantry.

Stornoway Lifeboat standing by small cargo vessel
14/12/2017 Stornoway and Leverburgh lifeboats along with Rescue 948 based at Stornoway were tasked to a small cargo vessel that had suffered machinery failure and was dragging its anchors toward Gasker Island off the west coast of Harris. Weather conditions were NW 10-11 with heavy sleet showers.  Leverburgh lifeboat was released from the scene at 0530 after the anchor had gripped and the situation had stabilised. Stornoway Lifeboat stood by until the arrival of an ETV from Kirkwall at 0900 15/12/2017. Stornoway lifeboat was released at 1005 and was alongside and refuelled and ready for service at 1505, 21 hours after launching.
