Maldon and District Events

In June, Anthea Wade from West Mersea Lifeboat station attended several events with the souvenir stall. The Blackwater Country show was always very popular and the total for the day was £875. In July at Heybridge Regatta £469 and then in September at Malson Town Regatta a total of £580 was taken, even though the weather was so awful, raining most of the day. Thank you very much Anthea.

The Goldhanger Sea Sunday service was in July when Miriam and Ken Harrison attended with the stall and took £148.

Our annual Maldon High Street fundraising was held in August on a very hot day, but the collectors still has a grand total of £558.12 in their buckets.

In August Anne Scott attended the Blackwater Sailing Club's Regatta and total raised was £390 and at the club's Macmillan coffee morning event in October £420 was taken with the souvenirs. Thank you to Anne and her helpers and all members of the club for always giving us so much support.

We held a two day fundraising event at the Morrisons stores in October, thank you to all our collectors £1,856 was the total in the buckets. We had great support from the shoppers, and a local benefactor very generously made the total up to £2,000.

On Remembrance Sunday in November, Ken Harrison attended the service and laid a wreath on behalf of the RNLI in Maldon.

A Maldon Vintage Fair was held in November, the weather again wasn't kind, very damp but the event was well supported; Sue and Peter Woods attended with the stall and took exactly £200 with the souvenirs.

The last fundraising collection for the year was held at Tesco's on December a total of £1,000.42 was in the buckets, our fantastic collectors did a great job in the very cold entrance to the store, a big thank you to them.

Through the year Ken Harrison has given many interesting and informative talks to various clubs for which we thank him.

On 5 January 2019 our biggest event the Row will be held at Maldon Little Ship Club on The Hythe. If anyone is interesting in taking part, please contact John Rogers via phone 01621 853841. Many of the rowers come in fancy dress which is well worth seeing. There will be hot food including soup, bacon and sausage butties, homemade cakes and hot drinks, the bar will also be open. John and Di recently attended a dinner in London 'Excellence in Volunteering' which recognised the great contribution John and Di have both made over the years, especially all the work they do for The Row.

All of these events could not take place without the fantastic volunteers including the committee members who give so much of their time to support the Maldon Branch, our very sincere thanks goes to them, we look forward to a successful 2019.

The branch urgently needs a Souvenir Secretary.

Please contact the Branch Secretary for more information about what the role involves if you might be able to help.

Visitors are welcome to attend our committee meetings that take place at Maldon Little Ship Club, Hythe Quay, Maldon, CM9 5HN every second Thursday in the month (excepting August and December).
