Branch information

Our branch covers Gloucester and the Forest of Dean (including Newent).

Gloucester Branch was formed in 1866, and funded the first Falmouth lifeboat, “The Gloucester”, which was launched into Gloucester Docks in 1867.  2017 saw us celebrate the 150th anniversary of this occasion with an event held in Gloucester Docks, and the close association with Falmouth continues to this day.

2017 also saw the 10th anniversary of major flooding in Gloucestershire, when the RNLI played its part in helping with the rescue efforts.  This helps to bring home to people that the RNLI has relevance locally, as well as nationally.

We have a dedicated committee of 12 people, who, together with a small group of supporters, take part in a variety of events to raise funds and promote the work of the RNLI in general.

We also provide talks and educational presentations to local groups and schools, so please get in touch if you would like us to come and talk to you.

We organise a range of events, typically our annual Flag Day collection, various supermarket collections, table sales, sponsored walks and more.  We work closely with other Gloucestershire branches, particularly Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, where we collaborate on larger events and share resources.

We always welcome new helpers!  If you live in or around Gloucester and the Forest of Dean and would like to get involved in events we organise to help save lives at sea, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
